Daily Itinerary

Day 1 (Sunday, Monday or Tuesday): Arrival in Constance

Individual arrival to Constance where you enjoy the old town centre, visit Mainau, the island of flowers, or the monastery island Reichenau.

Day 2 (Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday): Constance to Schaffhausen, 34 miles (55 km).

You pass the border into Switzerland and cycle through small romantic villages to Stein am Rhein, one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval towns in the German-speaking countries. Your destination of the day is Schaffhausen, which has become world-famous because of the "Rheinfall" - the largest waterfall of Europe.

Day 3 (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday): Schaffhausen to Zurich, 41 miles (66 km).

In the morning you follow the Rhine, which leads you to the Rhine loop and to Rheinau. Short distance behind Eglisau with its pictorial house line you leave the Rhine and follow the way along the river Glatt. You pass Bülach and cycle towards Zurich.

Day 4 (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday): Zurich to Lachan, 25 miles (40 km)

Today you have sufficient time for a stroll through the Zurich. Walk along the promenade, visit the beautiful old part of the town or one of the museums. Today you will cycle along the banks of Lake Zurich, which is also known locally as the Gold Coast, until you come to Rapperswil with its old castle and cross over the lake using the dam. You will come to the small little town of Lachen on the opposite shore.

Cycling in Germany - SargansDay 5 (Thursday, Friday or Saturday): Lachan to Walenstadt, 19 miles (30 km).

Today you will cycle along the Linth Canal, the man-made canal between Lake Zurich and Lake Walen, and come to Weesen. Here you will board a boat which will take you to the other end of the lake and Walenstadt. The Lake is 150 m deep and is towered over by the 1800m high Churfirsten Mountains.

Day 6 (Friday, Saturday or Sunday): Walenstadt to Feldkirch, 34 miles (55 km).

After a few kilometres you will reach the Rhine and follow the river to arrive in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The magnificent castle of the family of the Prince looks over the capital, Vaduz. When you have looked around the Vaduz you then cycle over the border into Austria and reach Feldkirch with its medieval town centre. Your overnight stay is in Feldkirch.

Day 7 (Saturday, Sunday or Monday): Feldkirch to St Gallen, 28 miles (45 km)

You will continue to follow along the Rhine for a little longer, then a cogwheel railway will bring you up to Appenzell countryside, to Gais. Alpen meadows and cows, like those from children’s books will accompany you on your way to St.Gallen which is home to one of the formerly most important monasteries in the region. The library is a UNESCO-world heritage site.

Day 8 (Sunday, Monday or Tuesday): St Gallen to Constance, 28 miles (45 km).

You will cycle downhill towards Lake Constance today, which you will reach at the town of Arbon. From here you will cycle along the shore line through Swiss villages and apple orchards on towards Constance

Day 9 (Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday): Departure from Constance

After breakfast your cycling tour through four countries comes to an end.
