Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Saturday: Arrival in Copenhagen.

In Copenhagen do have a stroll on Strøget, the long pedestrian street. Here you will find the old medieval part of Copenhagen, as well as many excellent restaurants.

Day 2 Sunday: Copenhagen to Hillerød, 30 miles (48km).

Leaving the City on cycle paths the route heads north through Dyrehaven, the royal hunting ground, where you may spot impressive deer herds. Turning inland and passing through a landscape of woods, small hills and lakes you will reach Hillerød. Frederiksborg Castle, standing in the middle of a lake, is well-worth a visit.

Day 3 Monday: Hillerød to Helsingør, 21 miles (34km).

On to Fredensborg and Fredensborg Palace where the Danish Queen spends half her year. The grounds are always open and in July, the palace and private garden are also open. Then on to the lively town of Helsingør with its narrow cobbled streets, cafes and restaurants and, of course, Hamlet’s castle Kronborg.

Day 4 Tuesday: Helsingør to Ljungbyhed, 34 miles (55km).

The ferry takes you across the Øresund to Helsingborg where you will ride through the peaceful and ever changing Swedish countryside. At Söderåsen you will visit Sweden's newest national park and then spend the night at a traditional country inn. In Sweden not all country roads have a hard surface, so be prepared for gravel stages.

Day 5 Wednesday: Ljungbyhed to Lund, 36 miles (58km).

The route now heads south towards the university town of Lund, passing several manor houses and castles. In Lund the hotel is located centrally so you can explore the town by bicycle or on foot. The most famous attractions in Lund are the cathedral and the Kulturen open-air museum.

Swedish Coast near Landskrona - courtesy of Mr John BeckettDay 6 Thursday: Lund to Helsingborg, 37 miles (59km).

Pedalling on quiet country roads to the coast at Landskrona you can either relax on the beach at the village of Borstahusen or visit the impressive 16th century Citadel Castle. Then you follow the coastline back into Helsingborg for the night.

Day 7 Friday: Helsingborg to Copenhagen, 30 miles (48km).

Crossing the Øresund once again you head south along the Danish coastal road to Louisiana, where a museum of modern art is well worth a visit. Its location by the sea makes it an excellent place for a lunch stop and a swim. The harbours along the coast are excellent places to stop for refreshments. And finally all the way on bike paths back into Copenhagen for your final night.

Day 8 Saturday: Depart from Copenhagen.

Departure from Copenhagen after breakfast.
